CHAR WILLINGHAM YOGA & WELLNESS
Char’s lifelong study of movement has taken her on an incredible and ever-evolving journey from dance and competitive sports to a career as an Interdisciplinary Movement Specialist. Her professional training and integrative teaching journey includes dance and movement, holistic wellness & nutrition, fitness industry pro specialties and complementary practices; paving the road to her training in several mind-body modalities. Including becoming a Registered Yoga Teacher and a Yoga Alliance E-RYT 200, RYT 500 & YACEP. Char’s yoga teacher training and evolving twenty year yoga practice is deeply rooted in alignment based Vinyasa, with an emphasis on Ashtanga, Iyengar and Baptiste lineages and she’s completed much of her advanced yoga teacher training within these ancient yogic traditions. In addition to her advanced training in Yin Yoga. She is also a trained Meditation Teacher & Mindfulness Guide, Reiki Practitioner/Master Teacher, Thai Yoga Bodywork Practitioner and Professional Sound Healer. She’s also an official TRX Trainer & Coach, Pilates Instructor, Aerial Yoga Teacher, and a specialist in Fascial Release, Myofascial Movement and Functional Fitness. She continues her ongoing education in each of these specialties, which includes the supportive education of nutrition, movement science, prehab and post-rehab modalities and she offers a variety of classes and workshops drawing from her evergrowing multidisciplinary teaching toolbox.
Char’s twenty plus year yoga practice began in Hatha yoga. However, fifteen years ago she discovered Hot Power Vinyasa at the urging of her acupuncturist following a high-speed collision and a lengthy recovery. She immediately fell in love with the smooth, dance-like movements, releasing and revitalizing effects offered by each sweaty class. As a result she decided to train in alignment-based Power Vinyasa with a strong foundation in Ashtanga, Iyengar & Baptiste lineages and teaches fusion classes incorporating elements of these traditions in both neutral & heated rooms. Additionally, as someone who was born with a genetic autoimmune disease, having to endure a lifelong battle with a physically debilitating and degenerative musculoskeletal disorder with chronic and systemic pain and inflammation, it became very important for Char to offer additional integrative healing practices through Reiki, Aromatherapy, Bodywork, Meditation and Sound Healing. In addition, Accessible & Adaptive Yoga, Yoga for Chronic Pain, Trauma Sensitive Yoga, Chair Yoga, Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Gentle & Restorative Yoga for their rehabilitative and regenerative effects; especially for certain types of musculoskeletal diseases, injuries, chronic conditions, trauma recovery and mood disorders. She’s also trained to work with breast cancer survivors at all stages of detection and care. Including those with Lymphedema, Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer and those in need of palliative support.
